Close Your Ears

It’s universal in basically everything, but I would say especially in music and with bands. Do not listen to what people say. Only watch their actions. I have found these things to be so polar opposite sometimes that it’s ridiculous. If you frame things this way, it’s really hard to be on the fence about people. And I’ve found generally that the only ones that make me mad are the ones who are saying something totally different. I think, especially in a band situation, which is a live-action trust fall, with basically the same kind of consequences, at least socially anyway, that knowing who somebody is for real is the most important part about keeping a band together. In the end, you can really love to play with people, and maybe that really overrides a lot of this. But if you’re having issues, which, if you’re in a band, you are having issues, closing your ears really helps, ironically. At least I’ve found it to be so.
