The Hu 0 ▲ Simon Collison | Journal 1 day ago · Music · hide · 0 comments We drove to Norwich to see a Mongolian folk metal band, as you do. Geri’s been a big fan since their televised Glastonbury set a few years back. NORRRIICH THAK YU VERRR MAARCHH!! The gig was loud as fuck and my ears still hurt, but I really enjoyed it. On arrival, the place was rammed with 7ft-tall grebs, but after a little reconnaissance and a lot of persistence, we wheedled our way to a great view by the left-hand speaker stack (hence us being a bit deaf ever since). The Hu (Mongolian for “human beings”—“It’s not about being Mongolian; it’s about being human”) have some epic tunes, and I allowed myself some age-appropriate headbanging, but I particularly loved the crowd singing Black Sabbath’s mighty War Pigs while awaiting the band, and the closing cover of Iron Maiden’s The Trooper, sung entirely in Mongolian, was ace. When it comes to Mongolian music, Geri’s my expert. I mainly like jazz singer Enji, but after tonight, I might let myself enjoy The Hu from time to time. Setlist… No comments yet.
