Autumn at Crathes Castle for a birthday cake picnic

It was Ben’s birthday yesterday and our favourite thing to do for birthdays is a walk in the woods (or hills) with a picnic cake stop and maybe also lunch and whisky. Yesterday we chose a walk in the woods at Crathes Castle, followed by a picnic cake and whisky in a lovely secluded spot in the castle grounds. Autumn has arrived and with it a beautiful colour palette. The background in these photos looks fake but it is definitely real! I saw it with my own eyes. I made a delicious almond, orange and cardamom cake from the Leon Fast Vegan cookbook. This is one of our favourite cakes and I’ve made it for several birthdays now.
