Not gonna lie, I love a good city builder! To be honest even some of the mediocre ones. I’m not sure what it is about them but my guess would be the combination of spatial puzzle, mild comboing, lovely visuals, and that it’s a theme pretty much anyone can relate to. From Kickstarter extravaganza Foundations of Rome to tumbling meeple madness Rolling Heights, classic Suburbia to Splotter’s Antiquity, there is much variety in this genre to be had. And all of it in some form or other appeals to both my inner child that wants to build up its very own city and the gamer in me that wants to figure out how to do it best. When I heard Dan Thurot’s lovely interview with designer Quinn Brander on the Space Biff podcast, I was all ears. I never played the predecessor Rebuilding Seattle, but the combination of oddly shaped tile laying and high player interaction sounded like it would bring something different to the typical city builder formula.
