Fisherman's Walk & Wiggly Bridge, York ME 0 ▲ Trailspotting 2 hours ago · Nature · hide · 0 comments • 4-star hike • 1 to 2 mile options • Easy | Gain 10 feet • York, ME | Maine . Wiggly Bridge at Barrell's Millpond. Fisherman’s Walk follows the York River inland from the harbor to a historic millpond dam and a small suspension bridge. First settled by Europeans in 1624, the town that became York grew into a prosperous seaport. Little sign of that trade remains today, though the harbor inlet stays busy with pleasure craft and seafront restaurants. The trail begins close to Harbor Beach and heads inland along the banks of the York River. Crossing Route 103 at the crosswalk leads to the dam at Barrell’s Millpond. Built in 1727 to hold back Meeting House Creek, the dam originally powered new gristmills and sawmills at its southern end. The current dam stems from a 1922 restoration and features a footpath along its top.
