This is a Dutch graphic novel-style memoir about growing up being the target of Munchausen syndrome by proxy (factitious disorder imposed on another/FDIA). Nina's mother forced her to be sick and took away any chance of a regular childhood by keeping her out of school and constantly pressuring health care professionals to perform invasive medical tests on her. Honestly, both her parents were very abusive and terrifying to read about. This book offered a good look at how a child is forced to play along, until they question their own reality and eventually truly do get very ill. It also showed how it can take such a long time for any professional to notice what's happening. Even when one person starts to suspect something, colleagues can get in the way of appropriate action by minimizing the situation. Fortunately Nina got saved at age fourteen. But beyond losing their parental rights to Nina, her parents never suffered any other…
