The last time I brought you here to walk along the Ashuelot River we were looking for those beautiful closed gentians, but this time we’re leaf peeping. Leaf peeper is the name given to those who come sometimes from very long distances to see the colorful foliage. The only difference between them and natives is, we don’t have to travel to see this amazing spectacle. But just like the leaf peepers we stand mute, stunned into silence by the beauty of it all. What after all, is there to say? I get the idea to come here from the trees I see changing along the roads I drive. If I think it might be time I come to this stretch of the Ashuelot, which has one of the most beautiful fall displays that I know of in this town. But it’s always hit or miss and I’ve been either early or late. This year just like in the story of Goldilocks and the three bears, I think it was just right. And I didn’t see a single bear.
