Review by Sandre the Giant Released: 17th April 2026 The next instalment of my ‘oh shit, how far behind am I on Transcending Obscurity releases this year’ leads me to Mexican black metallers Muerto and their new record ‘Eclipsed Realms’, released back in April. A three piece, female fronted outfit, their sound is described as doom/post black metal with a real sense of atmosphere and darkness, which all sounds ideal for 2026 black metal. This is their third full length, and I am currently unfamiliar with them so I look forward to changing that here and now. The sinister buzz that begins ‘Serpentine Echoes’ feels like it birthed from utter blackness, and then that feeling just nosedives straight into the void from there. Suffocating, dissonant and odious riffs burn and groan from the midst of a whirling, cloying atmosphere that draws in all light to its demise. The vocals from Penelope Matamoros are inhuman gasps and snarls, dredged from this atmospheric dreadfulness and it puts Muerto…
