For the better part of the last year I have been playing the tabletop game Commonwealth by Michael Hansen. I recommend it! It's a kind of sci-fi fallen-earth aristocrat simulator - its creactor describes it as "social climbing simulation inspired by En Garde!, The Book of the New Sun, and Barry Lyndon." When you get to this point, it moves at a pretty satisfying clip and people are able to get both rules-minmaxing and character-storytelling pleasures from this game. It seems to be making everyone at my table happy, for that reason, haha. I'd say this game is something you should only be playing if your entire group is comfortable doing DM-adjacent activities, like reading and debugging rules issues themselves live at the table. The game is great, I have had a lot of fun with it... but it is…
