Thoughts on Gemini (no, still not the AI) 1 ▲ Yunzi's Blog 1 hour ago · Tech · hide · 0 comments Since my (surprisingly popular) blog on Gemini protocol I've continued to poke around with it and these are some very unstructured thoughts. Seriously - I'm typing this as I go, its not a coherent blog, its just me rambling. First off - gemtext, the text format used with the gemini protocol seems to be utterly pointless. Its neither one thing or another. I understand the need to minimalistic, easy to parse text handled by this minimalistic protocol, but you might as well just use just text. The very few options given in gemtext include Headers - which will be given anyway in context and cause some other issues I'll get to later. Lists - again surely pure text <> A list item works as well as as gemtext rendered A list item Links ok - obviously these are needed. But everything else feels like it might as well just be pure text. Markdown would just as easily fulfil the requirements of easy to parse minimal text, but also allow links, proper italic and bold text as well as footnotes and… No comments yet.
