One side Crayford Marshes, one side Dartford Marshes. Fork up the Cray rather than the Darent, then switch to the minor Stanham River. The first road crossed is the A206, the first two railway lines head to Dartford. Maiden Lane is the first suburban street (one side London one side Kent), while cars entering Gable Close are surveilled by the first ULEZ camera. Cross Watling Street to follow the backs of semi-detached gardens, not for the last time, then squeeze out through the lights on Station Road. Obviously Dartford council hides its tip here. Span the A2, old and new, then skirt the edge of Dartford Heath to the joys of Joydens Wood. A church, some deneholes and a two mile invisible zigzag through ancient woodland dodging the Fæsten Dic.
