Actress Eva Marie Saint has died. She was 102. This one really hurts. We can be grateful that she had enjoyed such a long and happy life though. She died at home in Los Angeles yesterday, surrounded by her family. Until her death she had been the oldest surviving Oscar winner. Eva Marie was born in Newark, New Jersey, on July 4th, 1924. She originally wanted to become a teacher before feeling drawn towards acting. She trained first at New York’s Herbert Berghof Studio and then studied at the Actors Studio. She began her career on live television during the 1940’s, and she would later go on to win an Emmy for her performance in the miniseries People Like Us(1990). She made her film debut in Elia Kazan’s On The Waterfront(1954), for which she received the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
