I just realized that I don't know what hypertext actually is. Like I know HTML and I build HTTP APIs for a living, both of which have hypertext in their names, but what is actually hypertext? What is the definition of hypertext? A quick visit to wikipedia later tells me that for text to be considered hypertext, it needs to: Be text On a monitor (or just any electric form I guess) With links to other documents Which can be accessed immediately The prefix hyper isn't just a marketing gimmick either, it comes from the mathematical meaning of hyper, vaugely as in "extension of" (eg. hypercube, hyperspace). It's not meant in the meaning as in "(too) much", like in a medical setting. There is no hypotext, which I guess would be weak or unimpressive text. What this made me realize is that Gemini (the protocol, not AI) is hypertext. That may be obvious to some, but since it's specifically does't use HTML, I have always seen it as not hypertext.
