It’s always a good day when a new title in the British Library Crime Classics range pops through the door, and a recent arrival looked to be an enticing read. It’s another one of their stellar anthologies, this time titled “Eat, Drink and Be Murdered”, and as you might have guessed, the setting and subject matter of these stories involves anything edible or drinkable, or indeed located in somewhere which prepares these items! Expertly curated, as usual, by series editor Martin Edwards, the stories gathered range from 1930 to 1969 and are ordered chronologically. The authors are an interesting selection, with several names I recognised and many less-well known which is always fun – I love to explore new writers and works! As for the subject matter – well, you just know that food and drink can make the perfect vehicle for something which is going to murder someone!! The collection opens with a strong story from H.
