Developer: Scarab Publisher(s): Naxat Soft (Japan), Acclaim (US, PAL) Release Dates: June 2nd, 1995 (Japan), September 30th, 1996 (US), 1996 (PAL) Available On: Sega Saturn Genre: 2D Fighting I love me a cheesy as heck video game and I also enjoy fighting games a whole lot in general, so you’d think I would be a bigger fan of Mortal Kombat and the many similar games it inspired. Sometimes, a weird “clone” actually does work for me– I kinda like Ultra Vortek!– but most of the time, I’m just left wondering what people see in the original Mortal Kombat and anything resembling it. It’s one of those rare games that I feel like you really had to be there for to appreciate and, unfortunately, I wasn’t there. I like how goofy it looks, but I dunno, I just can’t get into the way it plays. The structure of the single player mode is obnoxious to me, the moves and combos never feel good to do, and the whole “it’s got blood and gore and Fatalities!” thing never impressed me… No comments yet.
