Like many young male gamers of a certain age, back in the day I did try playing the original Tomb Raider games a bit but never got particularly far or even enjoyed them really. This was back at the dawn of 3d gaming, and it would be another generation or two before camera controls would become good enough for me to log significant playtime in action games of this nature. In fact, I have never seen any of the Tomb Raider films either, so my knowledge of this franchise and its lore is limited to what occasionally leaks from the internet. As such, my first serious foray into the whole archeological action-adventure subgenre actual began with Nathan Drake and the Uncharted games. I was originally planning to write about the Tomb Raider games only, but the Uncharted games are kind of the same and thematically related and I haven't written about the first two Uncharted games before so I decided to write some words about them here as well.
