Adjusting to a world of punk, still riding high after a tour featuring songs like Somebody to Love, Brighton Rock, and Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen headed back to the studio. During that Day at the Races tour, Queen started to realise they were on to something, they’d been annoyed by crowds singing along but, according to Brian May… “They sang every note of every song. Freddie and I looked at each other and went, ‘Something’s happening here. We’ve been fighting it, and we should be embracing it.’” Thus was born We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, designed for stadium audiences and still played round the world some 50 odd years later. Both songs featured on their News of the World album, and was a favourite of mine when I discovered it years later.
