I’ve been faced with a conundrum of late. In the past, everything I cared about had a VGA (or DVI) interface, which was easy enough to use in a modern context. Today, I have a mix of all sorts of kit that uses: Serial/RS-232 consoles Composite, with or without separate luma/chroma MDA/Hercules CGA/EGA/RGBi S-Video 13W3 with standard VGA (Sun), or sync on green (SGI) D15 VGA DVI and/or HDMI I currently have a setup that works for all of these, but they involve individual components that all require their own cables, adaptors, power supplies, interfaces, and connections to an HDMI switch box. In our tiny apartment, I’ve resorted to shoving all these all into a bamboo box on the table, with the requisite input cables stuffed through one of the carry handles, and the requisite HDMI cable poking out the other handle. I call it my UPPSCALER box, because it uses an UPPDATERA bamboo box from IKEA. And yes, my choice of words like shoving and stuffing were deliberate, because there’s nothing…
