Thirteen as a Lucky Number I got 2 initial COVID-19 shots in March 2021, and 1 every 6 months thereafter. So here we are at number 13, in a process that is now routine. “Isn’t 13 vaccinations too many?!” is the panicky question likely to be asked by people who haven’t thought it through. No, 13 is exactly the right number for a senior. Every 6 months, like clockwork. This particular version is mNEXSPIKE, the Moderna version for seniors. As we discussed this time last year when I first got mNEXSPIKE, the sequence has been biohacked a bit more than the original vaccine (which had 11 different types of modifications to increase potency). It’s even more potent, for seniors with weaker immune systems, and thus is administered at a slightly lower dose (50μg for SPIKEVAX vs 10μg for mNEXSPIKE).
