Had a rare one this weekend. Bit of a breeze behind me on the way out and then again on the way back. Not exactly but as near enough to notice. It was a great ride. I really enjoyed it. Best route I know from Chatham to Dover. Hilly country lanes through the Kent Downs all the way to Capel-le-Fern. Along the top of Abbots Cliffe then down to Dover. Bit of a climb up past the castle, through Deal, a quick stop at my sisters for tea and chat then onto the Viking Coastal Trail from Sandwich to Reculver. Almost 100% traffic free along cycle paths and promenades along that stretch. As close as you’ll get to the sea in this part of the world without getting wet. Cycling is prohibited along a good part of the way from 1 May to 30 September inclusive between the hours of 10am and 6pm. A week earlier and I’d have been walking attracting disapproving looks for a good few miles. I enjoy riding through Whitstable and Faversham.
