I have a bunch of scripts that I have written over the past many years that deal with tabular data. Even though libraries are available to read and write to Excel files, I've always preferred to have my scripts deal with CSV files instead. Yes, there is then an additional step to convert between Excel and CSV formats. But I rather have that one more step (plus whatever nonsense Excel throw on-top of CSV files…), so that my scripts only need to deal with plain text files.
