Use Less Memory, Save Our Wallets 0 ▲ This Is My Last 1 hour ago · Tech · hide · 0 comments In these days of super expensive memory chips, maybe we will see a whole bunch of devices that rely on the cloud for most of the storage and processing? Maybe a home camera system that has minimal storage, but requires constant connection to the cloud to save videos? Or maybe a TV box that not only stream television programs, but also stream video games and apps? And, hopefully, device makers will not just add new features (AI!), but also focus on optimizing their operating systems to use less storage space and less memory? (Apple may have a good head start here, but Apple Intelligence has eroded some of the advantages.) Time to think small. ~ P.S. Yes, I know relying on the cloud just means that memory chips are still needed in servers sitting somewhere. I am thinking it may be easier to optimize for storage requirements in servers, rather than inside each of our pockets. No comments yet. Log in to reply on the Fediverse. Comments will appear here.
