Raspberry Pis are like iPads and other tablets for me: I like the idea of them, but then I get them and immediately regret it. Then sufficient time passes, I forget, and I think huh, that might be cool. Rinse, and repeat. It’s a bit of a shame, really. A tiny single-board computer? What’s not to love about it? Well, as it turns out, many things. This weekend I updated our Pi 400, and tried reviving an older Pi 1 Model A+ for a friend to use as a Pi-Hole, and it was like pulling teeth. I could go into all the tedious troubleshooting steps, but after hours of faff I decided it wasn’t worth continuing, let alone writing about. Pair that with the fact that Pis aren’t even affordable anymore, and I can’t see myself buying another one, or recommending them any time soon. I’d be better off with any number of Intel N100 boxes (or whatever) that are more affordable, expandable, capable, and have real storage. Sorry Pi, it’s not me, it’s you. Okay, it’s both of us.
