Pedestrians and the Brooklyn Bridge – New York, New York As I showed you yesterday, my wife and I made it to the Brooklyn Bridge, and you can tell from this scene that we walked closer toward the first tower. Of course, the more salient difference is that I’m back to using the Leica M Monochrom camera again. At 50mm, the focal length is also a bit longer than yesterday’s 42mm, thus creating a slight compression of the people against the bridge’s architecture. While I shot other compositions with people further away, I like this one where the group is fairly close. The effect is that the people stand out nearly as prominently as the bridge, giving more or less equal weight to the foreground and background. I admit I was using the environment to be a bit bolder with my street photography. Manually focusing the M takes some time, and under normal conditions, without the dramatic bridge in the background, people might wonder if they were the subject of my photography.
