My Essex Roots by Mervyn Alan Bright 0 ▲ The history of Witham, Essex 1 hour ago · Writing · hide · 0 comments Thank you to Mervyn for letting me copy his detailed, entertaining and beautifully presented account of his family’s history. Most of his family lived in Terling. This is one of the nearest villages to Witham, which is less than five miles away, so there were many links between the two places. A few of the family lived in Witham, but it mostly appears as the ‘big city’, that Terling people had to visit for anything important, like school, registering a birth, or attending the Petty Sessions if they were caught poaching. Cycling was a common means of transport between the two places. Click here to download the PDF: Download PDF (7.6 MB) No comments yet. Log in to reply on the Fediverse. Comments will appear here.
