So DIGGER was… interesting. I avoided all reviews before I went, so I was watching the film clean. In case anyone’s reading this who hasn’t seen the film yet, I will simply say that the trailers for the film are not the film. I think it’s built to be watched twice. The first time, the twists hit you and you grapple with disappointment and your patience is tested. I want to watch it again with more attention to the details, while I’m not fidgeting in my chair, my investment in the first thirty minutes atomised by the first big twist. I’ll probably right some proper notes on it in a month or two. Right now, I don’t want to break it for anyone reading this who plans to see it. I will say that the film is gorgeously shot and designed, and that in no world was this ever intended as Oscar bait for Tom Cruise. It’s just too odd for that, and he knew it. And you will have to be quick, because I have the feeling that it is going to make zero dollars and will be accelerated towards PVOD…
