A lot of things can be said about Stephen King’s The Long Walk. First, it’s an admirable book, considering it was written by a 19-year-old. Second, it teaches a thing or two about cherishing life and living it. And third, I think it’s never too late for King to write a gay novel. The night before our book club meeting, my husband and I watched the film adaptation. I didn’t know it was a Stephen King novel until I saw the credits. Throughout the film, I got the vibe that McVries has some kind of romantic feelings for Garraty, and I wanted to prove it. When it was revealed that the theme for September was “horror,” the first thought I had was “I definitely will be reading The Long Walk.” The book was a journey. Every chapter made me want to do cardio. I don’t run, but I do like skipping ropes, and whenever I do my rope sessions, I would always think about how long I’d survive in The Long Walk.
