Looking out at Millwall Inner Dock, 24 September 2026 A hectic week that, looking back, felt much longer than it was. Autumn is coming, making itself felt on Monday on my walk down to the train station; I kept swapping the hand I was using to carry a bag, burying the other one in a trouser pocket to keep warm. This was a week in which I: Dealt with a very busy Monday, including reflecting on how written communications are so much harder to understand than face-to-face or even audio-only conversations. Intonation is completely lost. Emojis sometimes go a little way towards saving us. Had an impromptu catch-up with my boss to reflect on a few issues and seek his advice. I value our conversations so much, and I’ll miss them when they’re not routinely part of my week anymore. Had some short-notice business travel confirmed when my visa suddenly turned up. I’ve now learned the lesson not to start a visa application and then partway through decide to go and use a visa application company.…
