image by AI; not my prompt As I’ve said repeatedly on this blog, I have a love-hate relationship with AI. I don’t think it will be around much longer, as the bubble bursts and the AI companies all go broke. And in the meantime, I’ve found it an excellent learning and brainstorming tool, when used carefully, and as the internet gets more and more enshittified, it’s provided me with time-saving workarounds for shoddy, ad-infested websites and buggy, poorly-designed ‘apps’. But what I’ll miss most about it when it’s gone, I think, is the fun it’s given me, in finding interesting illustrations for my blog posts, and generating music for my poetry. For reasons I’ve explained elsewhere, AI will never be competent at producing works of art. But it can be useful in helping artists become better at their craft.
