It’s really enjoyable to watch people build elaborate systems in which they can track absolutely every aspect of their lives, plan every day to the minute, and achieve their wildest dreams. At least, that’s what I used to think. Now, I think of myself as a recovering productivity enthusiast. I went deep into the pit and climbed out the other side. And now, when I see someone making content about their beautiful, elaborate productivity system, alarm bells start ringing. I think a lot of productivity content on the internet is a form of escapism. It’s not designed to help you; it’s designed to make you imagine a life you will never have. Sometimes, you feel inspired enough to take action, which often involves dedicating an entire day to reconstructing your productivity system from scratch using an app you heard of that same morning.
