I am comfortable living in Linux, but...

After many failed attempts, I am finally comfortable doing all of my computing using Linux. In case you haven't heard, Linux is good now! And yet, I'm back on my Mac...for now. The short version? It's the software. Linux is loaded with pretty good apps, many of them free. Thing is, nearly all of them also run on macOS. This means that on a Mac, I can use all the great macOS software, and most of the great apps I use on Linux.. I've spent the past year recreating the dozens of little workflows on Linux that I'd built for myself on the Mac. Some of them were easily portable, but many weren't. Some had no real replacements, so I had to give them up. The things I like about Linux are abstract. The "I'm in complete control of my computing environment" kind of things. I miss that feeling on the Mac, especially when I can't launch an app that I downloaded or when I've had to dismiss the two thousandth permissions dialog that day.
