You really have to see this cross-platform player to believe everything it does. Apart from all sorts of technical music listening tweaks, it can act as a headless music server on your own network, or you can let friends listen by sharing your friend code with them. It will also scan your network for any mDNS discovery. It seems to use peer-to-peer connections, but bootstrapping through the Veilid network, so you don’t give out any IP address. Your node joins Veilid’s distributed hash table (DHT), which is spread across thousands of ordinary nodes. It’s a decentralised phone book with no owner. Your node builds a private route: a chain of relay hops through other Veilid nodes that ends at you. It then gets an encrypted “route blob” describing how to enter that chain.
