Raking up Brown’s Piece

I was last over at Brown’s Piece in January, and today Glorious Grasslands returned to help with raking the meadow prior to seeding. This community owned asset was purchased in September 2025, and they had flailed the entire meadow, getting rid of the thatch prior to the seeding. There was a mountain of raking to do, and also cutting some banked areas which couldn’t be reached by the machinery. Chris and I had the brush cutters and the first job was to make scallops in the scrub where the grass could be stored. We then set to work on the banks. South facing bank to be brush cut The whole site looked very good – the circular scrub areas we cut back earlier in the year were contained and the grass had restored nicely around them. The bank I cut today I had also done back in January. Not a lot of bramble had encroached, so it was relatively easy to get that back down to the level of the rest of the meadow. I had to leave around lunch time in order to get back to run the Dursley Code Club…
