Self-hosting is something I’ve been playing around with for a while, and I think I’ve finally got everything laid out the way I like it. This post will detail what I’m hosting and how I’ve got it set up, as always, on the cheap. My self-hosting set up is centered around streaming, because we like to watch things at home without ads. I’ve talked about my physical media collections here and there, and this is one of the ways I’m utilizing it, by ripping stuff to an old hard drive that’s hooked up to my server and then watching it whenever we want. Here’s how the system works so far. Main server My main server is a Dell Wyse 5060 thin client which has been running more or lest continuously since Fall of 2024. The Wyse PCs are “thin clients” that are used by businesses basically to boot up to the internet and load a remote desktop, nothing more.
