BBC Proms 2010 – 13 Aug 2010

Today’s recording starts with a trail for In Their Own Words: British Novelists. Then it’s a concert from BBC Proms 2010. Introduced by Sara Mohr-Pietsch. The conductor is Gianandrea Noseda, conducting the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. After the opening piece, Verdi’s Force of Destiny overture (familiar from Stella Artois adverts and Jean de Florette) is a more obscure piece, Dallapiccola’s Partita, which features a Soprano solo in the fourth movement, sung by Sarah Tynan, who is interviewed. In the interview we hear from composer Steve Martland. Also composer Robert Saxton. We hear from some members of the orchestra, including Matthew Watson. David Chatwin. Miriam Skinner. And Frances Pye. We also hear from tonight’s conductor Gianandrea Noseda. In the second half, there’s a performance of Bruch’s violin concerto with soloist James Ehnes.
