"All That Dies in April" by Mariana Travacio

Translated from Spanish into English by Will Morningstar & Samantha Schnee. This book isn't out yet, but will be in October 2026. I received a digital ARC from the publisher (thank you!). Told in short chapters, initially this is the story of a woman leaving her drought-stricken home, walking down dangerous mountains towards the sea. Some of her family have made the journey before her, and some will again after her, in search for better circumstances. I don't think this novel needs more introduction than that. Part of the beauty of the book is to experience the travels along with the characters, to be as tense, surprised, overwhelmed and amazed by what can be encountered as they are. It was hard for me to put the book down. It's written beautifully, it almost reads like poetry because the flow works so well. It fits the label of climate fiction and it felt haunting to read in between multiple natural disasters, both close to home and around the world. It's about family, displacement,…
