This is #57 in a series of month-end reflections on the state of the world, and other things that come to mind, as I walk and hike in my local community. photo from Pexels, free license Lately I’ve been thinking more about the time and attention that our media addiction robs us of, so we don’t pay attention to more important things. Like spending time face-to-face with other real human beings. And doing things in the real world instead of online. And I’ve also been thinking about how we impose our ‘stories’ on what we think is happening in the world, and the people in them, because we can’t ‘know’ how anything is actually being experienced by another person. So this month in my walks in the neighbourhood I’ve been focusing my attention on young people, the people my ancient generation seems to have such an ambivalent relationship with, and trying to just “pay attention to what I’m paying attention to”, rather than rushing to say what it all “means”. It’s so hard for us story-tellers…
