Subway Action

Subway Action – New York, New York I constantly take motion-blur pictures of trains, not just subways in New York City. I’ve probably shot something similar in almost every place I’ve been to, especially in Japan. There are lots of trains in Japan. However, I like this picture a little more than usual because there is something more going on. My goal for these types of pictures is to get a nice blur of the train coming into the station. I shoot them so that I can see its face about halfway through the frame. This one turned out pretty decently. But what I like in particular is the unplanned motion blur of the nearby passenger on the left. It looks like he adjusted his glasses while looking at his phone. Add in the other passenger walking along the platform, and there is quite a bit of implied action in this picture. It’s dynamic in a way that feels like New York City. You need rock-steady visual elements too. The subway station and the overhead pipes and lights anchor the image. If…
