What’s New Scooby Doo? – The Simpsons – 03 Aug 2010

The first recording today is What’s New Scooby Doo? – Uncle Scooby and Antarctica. In Antarctica, a strange undersea creature emerges and throws a man called Dr Zola into the freezing water. Shaggy and Scooby are volunteering at a zoo, where Scooby has made friends with a penguin called Petey. But the penguin needs to go home to Antarctica, so the gang accompany him there. This is a very generous zoo. They meet the captain of the plane, who introduces herself as a “dedicated iceist. We devote our lives to the love of frozen water, It’s a depleting resource, you know. In a million years or so, this will be an iceless planet. And then what will we do?” They get to the base near where they’re going to send the penguin, only to find it cold and devoid of life, except for one man whose first words to them are to scream “The Thing! The Thing!” Well you can’t go to Antarctica without a reference to John Carpenter’s masterpiece. He introduces himself as Munro Hopper, assistant to Dr Armand…
