oh, get me away from here, I’m dying play me a song to set me free I had the incredible good fortune of getting to see Belle and Sebastian live on their If You’re Feeling Sinister 30th Anniversary Tour this past weekend. They played through the whole of that album for the first half of the show, then did a set of fan favourites in the second half, complete with audience going up on stage to dance to ‘The Boy With the Arab Strap’. nobody writes them like they used to so it may as well be me It’s funny how the music of your formative years never leaves you, no matter how many decades roll by. These lyrics still pour out of me as if I heard them just yesterday. The songs are like living vines, rooted in some primal loamy part of my being, winding up the trellises of my life. I couldn’t uproot them now if I wanted to. If Matchbox Twenty was the band that defined my angsty school years, then Belle and Sebastian was the band of my late teens and early twenties, an era that shaped who I am…
