Single O, Surry Hills

While on my recent trip to Sydney, I made a visit to a popular cafe called Single O. Although they’re originally an Australian cafe, they have since expanded to Japan and actually have more stores in Tokyo (five) than they do in Australia (three). I wasn’t too much of a coffee snob while growing up in Sydney, so funnily enough I didn’t learn about Single O until after I moved to Tokyo. But I figured rather than visiting one of the spots in Tokyo, I should give the OG store in Surry Hills a go first. The “O” in their name stands for Origin, and if you’re not super-familiar with coffee beans, it means all the beans in a batch were sourced from a single location, rather than being a blend of multiple beans. This generally makes for a tastier cup of coffee. O for Origin Nowadays, you can expect to be able to drink a cup of single origin coffee at any good coffee store, so you’d almost think it’s a bit too generic of a name to be giving a coffee shop.
