The man’s birthday on September 23 should be some kind of international (interstellar?) holiday during which the entire globe shuts down and listens to nothing but his music. It might bring about some necessary changes! Maybe someday. But I’m going to get the ball rolling and listen to nothing but John Coltrane today. Join me! John’s time on this plane of existence was brief, but there are ongoing archival releases from the Coltrane Estate somehow. The Tiberi Tapes are the latest of the batch, giving some fairly lo-fi audience recordings from the early 1960s official status. Your mileage with this rough/raw stuff may vary, but it’s all valuable, I think. I kinda like hearing some crowd reactions during John’s increasingly wild solos, that shared joy and wonder taking place in the room in real time.
