Writing Wednesday: Sabbatical for the Seventh and Eighth Centuries

This time of year, I end up writing grant proposals to fun my summer field work. This year, there’s the added fun of writing a sabbatical proposal and a proposal for a one-year, named, research chair. All of these proposals will try to get support for my work at Isthmia. In particular, these proposals will ask for time to transform our current work into a book length manuscript (and catch up on bibliography to frame the project in recent studies of the Late Roman and Early Byzantine Greece, the tension between rubble and ruins, and, of course, recent work on handmade ceramics across the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean). Obvious what I’ve written below is a rough draft and incomplete at that, but it’s a start and a nice break from hacking away at various more substantive writing projects: The Roman Bath at the site of Isthmia in Greece is a good example of a 2nd century Roman bathing establishment.
