Outside The Met #2

Outside The Met – New York, New York Remember yesterday when I said all that stuff about preserving the purity of street photography by using a manual-focus Leica camera? I truly believe that, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t still use a backup camera for some autofocus insurance. I wanted to make sure I successfully captured the scene outside The Met after closing. When I’m shooting with the Leica M 246, especially during fast-changing scenes like this, I don’t have time to check focus and composition. Grabbing a few quick shots with my autofocus D-Lux 8 is a prudent move. Notice, however, that I didn’t frame the picture the same way, even though I could have. Instead of setting the zoom to a 50mm equivalent to match the focal length of the M 246, I shot wider. This picture is at 37mm, wide enough to include the couple on the right, along with the crowds and The Met’s architecture in the background.
