2026 Anniversary Series 087: Monstrosity – Millennium

Scribed by Sandre the Giant Released: August 1996 One of the most underappreciated bands, in my mind, from the Florida death metal scene in the mid to late 90s was Monstrosity, probably most famous for being the band that George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher left to join Cannibal Corpse in 1996, just as this record was coming out. But that should not be the band’s only claim to fame, given they were created by former Malevolent Creation and Cynic members as well as from George’s eponymous band. Their 1992 debut ‘Imperial Doom’ is a real beauty of old school death metal, and the follow up, 1996’s ‘Millennium’, is about as solidly great a death metal album from this era could be. I first discovered them on 2003’s ‘Rise to Power’, long after this record, but this old school death metal sound has a habit of feeling timeless.
