By definition, celebrities are the most visible, widely recognized, people who make art. They work in entertainment, and their work and lives fit into the show business model. (I consider fine artists who work in the gallery business model as part of this group. Local fame counts.) There’s also a message that you might receive: you need to be recognized and chosen in order to make art. You need to be extraordinary, like a superstar celebrity, to make something beautiful. That’s an imaginary barrier. A few years ago, the trendy call to “romanticize your life,” was a response to appreciate the small pleasures of life. And before that, Pam Beesly’s character, portrayed by Jenna Fischer, completes the finale of The Office with the line, “There’s a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn’t that kind of the point?” One of the many gifts of maturity is developing a taste of the ordinary. Special is made of ordinary. The post Beauty in the ordinary appeared first on Herbert Lui.
