I’ve learned a lot in the past two months. I’ll start with what they don’t tell you: It’s important to take water breaks. The past few months have been both a delight and nonstop. You’ll never be ready, the list of todos is constantly growing. Cara and I are often dividing tasks to take care of Aspen (or Luna and Veela) that we hardly have time for each other. We’ve had such fun hosting family and friends, but sometimes go hours without actually talking. Two months ago on Sunday morning, Cara and I decided we’d put off setting up the car seat long enough. We got it sorted after a few minutes, and thought about taking it back out until we needed it. I think we decided to leave it in for a few days, mostly because we were thinking about other stuff. And a few hours later, Cara’s water broke. We had a plan for the pup. But when we realized the little one might be coming, it was 5:10 pm—and our boarding spot’s front desk closed 10 minutes before.
