If you are going to bring your hit comedy to a close then you might as well do it by producing a screamingly funny series that leaves us wanting more and ensures a place in TV history and never even approaches anything like a shark jumping moment! I think what makes this show so good is the verisimilitude - the sheer lived-in reality of the lives we are looking at. These people argue and bicker, they talk over each other, fail to complete their sentences and make bad decisions. And we love them for it, and not for them. I must say that if this group of misfits is an indicator of the broader population it’s not a great outlook for the country, but who cares? The scene in the cafe with Gordon and Ashley, in a single take from a fixed camera location was a masterclass in acting, and the impassioned cry from Chiara of “Oh my god what is that? It smells like a dead mermaid’s vagina” is absolute comedy gold. If you haven’t seen any of these shows then I envy you as you can enjoy them all…
