night stand pt III..........

first mortise choppedThe width is a snug fit with the slat. The R/L is several frog hairs over but I knew that. What I wanted was the width to be snug or slightly undersized too. I made the depth of the mortises 3/8". dry fittedI like this trim and fit step. I get to control how tight and gap free the mortise is with the slat.almost made a me-steakI had all four of the long aprons but I was missing one of the short ones. I was holding it in my hands without knowing it. I was looking for the mortise layout on them and that was the almost me-steak. The short aprons don't need mortises because they don't get any slats. Worked in my favor because instead of 8 aprons to chop, I only had to do four.oopsThis apron had the one and only split I got from chopping the mortise. I glued it and set it aside to cook.hmm.......Went back and ran the mortising gauge again defining the walls. With them deepened I could run the marking knife in them making a wee bit deeper.
