Maybe she didn't select it at all and it was given to her by someone else. One can only speculate. 阿嬤 was the glue that kept the family together. She insisted that my sister and I remain close to my father's side of the family after he deserted us and even after my parents' official divorce. She made sure the grandchildren grew up together, even though our cousins were from Bolivia. (They later moved to Arkansas, which is quite far from California.) When she died, the bonds died with her. It was as if the uncles and aunts held on for her sake. I think she'd be quite disappointed with how we all ended up.
